Two Events Planned for Atlantic City

Harrahs recently created the Harrahs Atlantic City Poker Tournament. Its all No Limit and has no championship event. I really don't understand what they are thinking. The main purpose of it is to generate satellites for the WSOP main event in Las Vegas. They should just bill it as such and make every tournament a feeder for a bracelet event.

I call bullshit, but they could turn it around if they followed my advice. Add some Pot Limit Omaha and smaller qualifiers to bracelet events that include hotel and air to Vegas.

Borgata is back at it with a $500,000 guarantee tourney that will happen the end of May and be a precursor to the Summer Open. These guarantee events always have nice turnouts and soft fields. A good place for people to get their poker legs before heading of the WSOP in Las Vegas.

Brecher Wins Bay 101 Liebert Screwed

Steve Brecher who is an old time poker player bested Kathy Liebert at the final table of the Bay 101 in San Jose California. Chris Moore top ranked online poker player finished 3rd.

I must admit I think Steve is an awesome guy and deserves this his first big win. I am conflicted because Kathy really got fucked here. She had a few shots to capture the tourney but just couldn't get there. She would have been the first female to win an open WPT event. This is like her 5th or 6th WPT final table. She did get over 500k for her efforts. Kathy has cemented herself as the most accomplished female tournament poker player of all-time.

Borgata's 500k guarantee was this weekend. A I write they are down to 18 players. They started with 919 players make it nearly 1.5 million in the prize pool. First place will get $319,536.

Good luck to team 3some at the dream team poker event Liz Lieu. Mario Ho and Matt Stout.

NBC Heads Up and More

The MBC Heads Up Tourney took place last week in Las Vegas at Caesars Palace. 64 players entered including the biggest names in poker like; Phil Ivey, Doyle Brunson, Phil Helmuth, Daniel Nagreanu and more. The entry was $20,000 with $500,000 going to the winner.

The highlights of the event included a rematch of last years much talked about Tom Dwan Phil Helmuth match. This very Phil prevailed and was all to happy to gloat. Another big match was Scotty Ngyuen and Daniel. The funny part was Daniel dressed up as Scotty fake mullet and all. In the end it was the sexy Vanessa Russo against former World Champion Huck Seed. Huck took it down making him the 3rd WSOP ME champ to win it along with Helmuth and Jesus.

In other news:
some stupid Canadian took down the WSOPC event at Caesars, First place was $322k not bad for 3 days work. Chris Kolondicki, Matt Brady, Frank Vizza and Jason Young also made the final table.

Bay 101 and Wynn Classic Start this week. Bogata's 500k guarantee is this weekend. So there is plenty pf action out there.

Durrr All Day Long

High Stakes Poker made a triumphant return to the Game Show Network tonight. Playing in the game were a mix of online and live players. Doyle Brunson, Daniel Negreanu, Eli Elezera, Peter Eastgate, Zigmund, David Benyamine and Tom Dwan (Durrr).

In my opinion HSP is the best poker show on TV. They play for big money and you get to see great play. Durrr lost a big hand to WSOP 08 champ Peter Eastgate, but other than that the pots were small compared to the action ebing seen on Full Tilt these days.

In reponse to all of the big action being on Full Tilt these days Daniel and Barry Greenstein played HU on poker stars on an 8 game mix table. It wasn't close to the action on FTP and it wreaked of a publicity stunt. Many rumors have Barry being broke or at least in some economic turmoil.

Also like to send out my thoughts and prayers to Daniel's mother who has been ill for a few weeks now. Daniel is one of the nicest guys you could ever meet and like all of us he loves his mother.

Durrrr Loses 1.3 Million in One Day

Tom Dwan and Patrik Antonius have started their epic battle on Full Tilt. They have 4 200/400 tables set up for them. As I have previously stated they are playing 50,000 hands. If Durr wins Patrik owes him 500k and if Durrrr loses he owes 1.5 million. This is of course on top of what you win and lose in the match.

So far they have played about 4,000 hands and Dwan is up $150k. However this all seems to be taking a backseat to other big games online. Yesterday Durrrr played Phil Ivey Heads up at the $500/$1000 Pot Limit Omaha Table. Ivey nearly won $1 MILLION in this session alone. Counting Durrrs other loses yesterday he nearly got 1.3 million down. These are tournament chips folks this is real money.

By far this is the biggest cash game ever witnessed by the general public. Its like having GSN's high stakes poker on your computer every night. It has got me wondering whether one of the PokerStars pros will challenge Durrr. All 3 players so far wear the red and black of Full Tilt. This challenge also seems to be capturing the imagination of the poker public. you would think that PokerStars would consider backing someone to play Dwan. I know Barry Greenstein has already said he would be drawing dead againt Durrr.

If you want to keep up to date on the challenge check out this link:

Borgata Brings Back $500,000 Tourney

I have to admit I doubted the guys at Borgata for their guarantee tournaments but it worked so dam well in January. They are back at it again with a $500,000 GUARANTEED PRIZE POOL POKER TOURNAMENT starting on March 21. The structure is a deep stack one and the buy in will be for $1,650 ($1,500 buy-in event plus $150 entry).

The deep stack tournament starts with 30,000 in chips and will be held in Borgata’s 85-table poker room. Unlike the Fall and Winter events which they house in the Events center.

The four qualifying events for the $1,650 tournament will take place:
Friday, March 6 at 11AM ($165 + $35)
Sunday, March 8 at 11AM ($165 + $35)
Sunday, March 15 at 11AM ($330 + $50)
Friday, March 20 at 4PM ($330 + $50)

Get them while they are hot.

LAPC Under Way

Matt Savage one of the worlds best tournament directors was brought into revive The LA Poker classic. He has done exactly that. He created an inovative schedule of events that covered all areas of poker like the World Series of Poker. This included a $10,000 buy in Horse event as well as a $5k with one rebuy Omaha event. Scotty Nguyen won the HORSE to back up the 50k buy in event he won at 08 WSOP.

Jeff Madsen had a strong showing. With multiple final tables and a win to his credit. Jeff had fallen of the face of the earth. Matt Stout made a final table taking down 16k for his 5th place finish.

The main event is happening as I write. They had almost 700 entries into the event making this one of the bigger tourneys in the US. Hope the trend continues.

Grinding in Atlantic City: Step 1

Alright, you watched way too much poker on TV and you live too far from Vegas so you have decided to be an AC grinder. That means you will be spending your days and nights in the poker rooms of the Trop, The Taj, Caesars and Borgata. However with your limited bankroll you need to save money.

First and froemost make sure you make friends with floor people and dealers at these properties. They will be your doorway to food comps and poker room rates. But at the start you will need time to develop these friendships.

I recommend you try to spend as little as possible on where you stay and what you eat. I suggest places to eat like The Irish Pub. This is the best deal for food and booze in Atlantic City. As far as staying goes, become familiar withe the hotels up and down the black horse and white horse piker. Here are links to a directory for the tow main cities pleasantville and absecon. Many of these hotels offer weekly and monthly rates. Make sure you look for hotels with free wi-fi because you should be grinding on line at nighst and on Sundays.

Thats my two cents. Good luck future Iveys.

Durrr Challenge

For those of you who havent heard, Tom "durrrrr" Dwan has offered an open challenge to the poker world. He has offer 1.5 million to 500k that he can beat anyone (save his best friends) in an online poker match. They will play 4 tables at a time of either PLO or NL Holdem. The stakes are a minimum of 200/400. The match is for 50,000 hands. This expected to take about 80 -125 hours of play.

So far 3 people have stepped up to the plate and its a veritable whos who of poker. Phil Ivey, Patrik Antonius, and David Benyamine. Buzz has been flowing through the world of poker about how this match will turn out. Most have speculated that the winner of the match will most likely make an EIGHT figure score. Thats a spicy meatball.

These matches may well go down in poker histroy with the two other big ones. First being Johnny Moss and Nick the Greek out front of the Horseshoe. The second being the poker corporation vs Andy Beal. Thsi included a 17 million dollar victory by Phil Ivey to swing the match to the Corp. Honarable mention goes to the deathmatch between Ted Forrest and Hamid Damsalchi (definetly misspelled).

I am taking Durrrr. Online four tabling is way to big an advantage.

Stout It Out Loud

Last week my boy Matt Stout finally made a big final table. He finished 3rd at the Tunica World Series of Poker Circuit event. He should have probably won. Some back luck killed them when they were 3 handed. Way to go bro.

WSOP Vegas updates.

1) No more rebuys. Whipsers of collusion forced this.
2) There will be a 40k no limit holdem event at the 09 WSOP. that means around 4 mil for 1st.
3) New PLO8 5k event. Wish they would call this the World Championship

ESPN has been airing the WSOP of Eurpoe as of late. This was brought into replace the USPC which is held at the Taj Mahal. Boy did we blow that one.

Borgata Kills It.

Dont know how, what why or when, but the guys at the Borgata have this poker thing figured out.

Over a thousand players paid the $3000 for the main event. Steve something won. That is not important. The world is melting down and they got a 3 million dollar prize pool in January in Atlantic City. They should make these guys the mayor and city council. I wont name names, but you know who you are.

I thought poker was dead in Atlantic City after losing 95% of its TV coverage. I guess people truly want money more than fame.

Suck it

Stout Wins?

My boy Matt "all in at 420" Stout took down his first 6 figure score recently. Winning the poker stars Sunday $500 buy in tourney for just over $100,000. Good on you. Not the 12 mil Jaime Gold took down in 06 WSOP but it will do.

The Borgata Winter Poker Open starts next week. This is the first BWPO without a televised final table. The main event of the series is a 3k buy in and they are guaranteeing a 2 million dollar prize pool. Didnt they learn the last time not to guarantee money? Jesus. Ray and Tab are great at what they do, but I am unsure about the EV on these guarantees.

I am happy to say they FINALLY added a pot limit omaha event to the schedule. I may even come out of semi-retirement to play it. I really have felt for a while that PLO is a next level game. People who have grown bored with Holdem but still love poker cant get enough of Omaha. For those of you who dont know the game: you get 4 cards instead of two. The board runs out just like it does in holdem. The other big difference is that you must use exactly two cards from you hand with 3 from the bpard to make your best 5 card hand. In holdem you can use 2,1 or none if need be. Try it if you havent yet. I think you will be hapy.

Good Luck,
Krusty
