LAPC Under Way

Matt Savage one of the worlds best tournament directors was brought into revive The LA Poker classic. He has done exactly that. He created an inovative schedule of events that covered all areas of poker like the World Series of Poker. This included a $10,000 buy in Horse event as well as a $5k with one rebuy Omaha event. Scotty Nguyen won the HORSE to back up the 50k buy in event he won at 08 WSOP.

Jeff Madsen had a strong showing. With multiple final tables and a win to his credit. Jeff had fallen of the face of the earth. Matt Stout made a final table taking down 16k for his 5th place finish.

The main event is happening as I write. They had almost 700 entries into the event making this one of the bigger tourneys in the US. Hope the trend continues.

Grinding in Atlantic City: Step 1

Alright, you watched way too much poker on TV and you live too far from Vegas so you have decided to be an AC grinder. That means you will be spending your days and nights in the poker rooms of the Trop, The Taj, Caesars and Borgata. However with your limited bankroll you need to save money.

First and froemost make sure you make friends with floor people and dealers at these properties. They will be your doorway to food comps and poker room rates. But at the start you will need time to develop these friendships.

I recommend you try to spend as little as possible on where you stay and what you eat. I suggest places to eat like The Irish Pub. This is the best deal for food and booze in Atlantic City. As far as staying goes, become familiar withe the hotels up and down the black horse and white horse piker. Here are links to a directory for the tow main cities pleasantville and absecon. Many of these hotels offer weekly and monthly rates. Make sure you look for hotels with free wi-fi because you should be grinding on line at nighst and on Sundays.

Thats my two cents. Good luck future Iveys.

Durrr Challenge

For those of you who havent heard, Tom "durrrrr" Dwan has offered an open challenge to the poker world. He has offer 1.5 million to 500k that he can beat anyone (save his best friends) in an online poker match. They will play 4 tables at a time of either PLO or NL Holdem. The stakes are a minimum of 200/400. The match is for 50,000 hands. This expected to take about 80 -125 hours of play.

So far 3 people have stepped up to the plate and its a veritable whos who of poker. Phil Ivey, Patrik Antonius, and David Benyamine. Buzz has been flowing through the world of poker about how this match will turn out. Most have speculated that the winner of the match will most likely make an EIGHT figure score. Thats a spicy meatball.

These matches may well go down in poker histroy with the two other big ones. First being Johnny Moss and Nick the Greek out front of the Horseshoe. The second being the poker corporation vs Andy Beal. Thsi included a 17 million dollar victory by Phil Ivey to swing the match to the Corp. Honarable mention goes to the deathmatch between Ted Forrest and Hamid Damsalchi (definetly misspelled).

I am taking Durrrr. Online four tabling is way to big an advantage.

Stout It Out Loud

Last week my boy Matt Stout finally made a big final table. He finished 3rd at the Tunica World Series of Poker Circuit event. He should have probably won. Some back luck killed them when they were 3 handed. Way to go bro.

WSOP Vegas updates.

1) No more rebuys. Whipsers of collusion forced this.
2) There will be a 40k no limit holdem event at the 09 WSOP. that means around 4 mil for 1st.
3) New PLO8 5k event. Wish they would call this the World Championship

ESPN has been airing the WSOP of Eurpoe as of late. This was brought into replace the USPC which is held at the Taj Mahal. Boy did we blow that one.

Borgata Kills It.

Dont know how, what why or when, but the guys at the Borgata have this poker thing figured out.

Over a thousand players paid the $3000 for the main event. Steve something won. That is not important. The world is melting down and they got a 3 million dollar prize pool in January in Atlantic City. They should make these guys the mayor and city council. I wont name names, but you know who you are.

I thought poker was dead in Atlantic City after losing 95% of its TV coverage. I guess people truly want money more than fame.

Suck it

Stout Wins?

My boy Matt "all in at 420" Stout took down his first 6 figure score recently. Winning the poker stars Sunday $500 buy in tourney for just over $100,000. Good on you. Not the 12 mil Jaime Gold took down in 06 WSOP but it will do.

The Borgata Winter Poker Open starts next week. This is the first BWPO without a televised final table. The main event of the series is a 3k buy in and they are guaranteeing a 2 million dollar prize pool. Didnt they learn the last time not to guarantee money? Jesus. Ray and Tab are great at what they do, but I am unsure about the EV on these guarantees.

I am happy to say they FINALLY added a pot limit omaha event to the schedule. I may even come out of semi-retirement to play it. I really have felt for a while that PLO is a next level game. People who have grown bored with Holdem but still love poker cant get enough of Omaha. For those of you who dont know the game: you get 4 cards instead of two. The board runs out just like it does in holdem. The other big difference is that you must use exactly two cards from you hand with 3 from the bpard to make your best 5 card hand. In holdem you can use 2,1 or none if need be. Try it if you havent yet. I think you will be hapy.

Good Luck,

WPT: Another One Bites the Dust

It was annouced last week to almost noone's surprise that Borgata's Winter Poker Open to be held in January of 09 will not be part of the World Poker Tour. Borgata has two stops a year on the tour and they have now reduced it to one.

The long and the short of it is that the Worl Poker Tour is in trouble. Their business model is floundering. They moved from the travelchannel to the Game Show Network now to Fox Sports. These were all bad moves. Some may ask why is the WSOp so sucessful and WPT not. Easy, the WSOP sand ESPN shoot all of their programming in the same location over a few weeks of time. The WPT brings a crew around teh world and gets just two hours out of each trip.

They need to reduce the stops to 4 or 5 and add televised preliminary events. It is the only way it will suceed in the long run without them being but by Boyd or MGM.

In other notes. I have come across a company that is looking to sponsor upcoming poker players. Its called Reserve Vacations. They have a presense in Atlantic City and Las Vegas. Shoot me an email if you think you fit the bill.

till then.
